Our History

Lunch on the Run started in 1992 with a bit of imagination and a lot of vision about what people with a learning disability could achieve. Members of the Brierley Hill Community Team for Learning Disabilities wanted to offer people the chance to learn cooking skills and be more independent.

The small project began in a local community centre where people would make light snacks and bake cakes. Then came the brainwave. A lot of what was being made wasn’t just good enough to eat, it was good enough to sell!

In the past 25 years, we have grown and developed our training, work experience and catering services - providing an on-site coffee shop, preparing and delivering buffets for all occasions.

Trainees are involved in all aspects of running a catering business, whether preparing food, cooking, cleaning etc. You name it, and trainees are involved, whatever the level of disability.

Our belief has always been that given the right support and training, people with a learning disability can achieve so much, and we are delighted to say that for some this has resulted in paid work.
